Good Eats…to the “Rescue” at Captain Chuck-a-Muck’s

Recently I had the opportunity to check out another great little marina restaurant that was featured on Food Network’s hit TV show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.  The place is called Captain Chuck-a-Muck’s and it is located in the community of Rescue near historic Smithfield, Virginia.  Most people had probably never heard of Rescue until the day Guy Fieri stopped by and helped to put this little fishing village on the map.  “The Captain” sets on the bank of Jones Creek and here you will find plenty of locally sourced seafood, beautiful sunsets and a real family friendly atmosphere.

I always enjoy dining outside as close to the water as possible and today was no exception even though it was a little hot and muggy outside. The midday sun was beating down but the captain had it “covered”… literally!  The deck “ceiling” consisted of an actual boat sail that had been repurposed into a tarp and it provided plenty of much appreciated shade.  I suppose if the winds pick up on Jones Creek, Captain Chuck can just sail away!

Today’s lunch was all about the crabs!  Ordinarily I go for the crab cakes but today I decided on the seasonal soft shell crabs.  My son chose the crab salad and it was piled high with jumbo lump and sweet claw crab meat.  The ice cold beer was refreshing, the food was great and the service was good!   After lunch we walked around the marina where there were plenty of photo ops as well as a little “Captain” gift store to check out.

Nearby Smithfield is a great little “main street” town and when folks come to visit they tend to go to Smithfield Station which is another great restaurant that sets right on the water.  The next time you’re in the area however, it’s worth getting off of the beaten path and taking the short drive to Rescue for a visit to Captain Chuck-a-Muck’s.
