All About That Bass- Meghan Trainor

Meghan Trainor- a ray of sunshine, a breath of fresh air on the music scene.  Her songs are upbeat and bubbly; her lyrics are inspirational, practical and relatable with an old school doo-wop sound.  Meghan started singing with her father in a Methodist church when she was only 6 years old.  She was writing songs by the time she was 11 and started playing in a family band at age 12.  Her musical influences are Frank Sinatra and James Brown.  Meghan’s breakout song of course was “All About That Bass” with lyrics that challenge society’s strict standards of thinness as being the only accepted norm.  Who doesn’t feel better hearing “every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top”?  Meghan has a few things to say about liars and cheaters in dating relationships too. In “Lips Are Movin” we learn that a girl doesn’t have to be young, stupid or dumb.  Oh, and who hasn’t done the “Walkashame”?  But “if you’re gonna do the walk, do it like a boss” says Meghan; head held high, no walkashame!  Meghan is adorable, her videos are cute and her songs are catchy and fun. My favorite is “Dear Future Husband” where she encourages girls not to settle but to set their standards high for how a lady should be treated.  The hopeless romantic in me still believes that there’s a prince riding around out there somewhere with a glass slipper in his pocket. But I also know that sometimes you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find him!
